Who we are
Our Intergenerational Stewardship Table
Inter-generational Leadership
‘๐๐จ๐ญ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ ๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐ฐ๐ข๐ญ๐ก๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ ๐ฎ๐ฌ‘ is a principle that guides all our decisions and actions as we work together to improve outcomes for children and young people across Queensland.
It’s also the guiding force behind our Inter-Generational Stewardship Table (IGST) โ a group of ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐ ๐ฉ๐๐จ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ ๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐-๐๐ alongside ๐๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ ๐ฅ๐๐๐๐๐ซ๐ฌ who want to make a difference for Queensland kids โ right now and for the future.
Bringing a mix of lived experience and wisdom, knowledge, skills, and connections, the IGST will inform and shape the work of Queensland Kids Partnership over the next five years.ย

Background and process
From leadership to intergenerational stewardshipย ย
We are incredibly grateful to those who have served on our Leadership Table since 2022. Their leadership has enabled QKP to lay foundations for a future where thriving is not just an aspiration but a reality for all.ย In developing QKPโs Phase 3 Impact Strategy, those leaders have bravely explored the question: โwhat is the leadership needed next?โ.ย ย ย
From 1 July 2025 QKPโs Leadership Table embarked on a 12-month transition to become an Intergenerational Stewardship Table. ย
What is stewardship?ย
For QKP, stewardship is the act of purposefully nurturing systems over the long-term so that all young Queenslanders have what they need to thrive. Stewardship means:ย
- actively modelling more collaborative ways of working that foster trusting relationships, weaving people into a common purpose, deeply listening, enabling learning, and paying attention to power dynamics. (Dawn Plimmer, Collaborate CIC.ย Systems stewardship in practice: What it is and how to get started)
- enacting collective leadership by intentionally moving beyond individual and organisational roles and agendas, and stepping into shared accountability for and joint investment in changing systems and conditions young Queenslanders grow up in.ย
What is intergenerational stewardship?ย
For QKP, intergenerational stewardship means co-leading systems change with children and young people โ not as advisors or co-designers, but as equal leaders who hold unique knowledge and have access to different networks and strengths.ย ย
Our v1.0 design of the Intergenerational Stewardship Table is inspired by Accountable Futures Collective and looks like:ย ย
Young Stewards need:ย
- Alignment to systems change
- Clear parts of QKP to steward
- Time alone as Young Stewards
- All to be paid and have support and wellbeing plans
- Some to have a support person with them
- For the group to have a dedicated Engagement Worker
Intergenerational Stewards need:
- Alignment to systems change
- Potential Elders Council within
- Clear parts of QKP strategy to jointly steward
- Time together as Intergenerational Stewards
Adult Stewards need:ย
- Alignment to systems change
- Clear parts of QKP to steward
- Time alone as Adult Stewards
- To be supported on how to co-lead with Young Stewards
- Some to be paid an honorariumย
Purpose of the IGST
Collectively:ย
- guide QKP, and ย
- lead change by influencing systems and environments that shape the lives of young Queenslanders.ย

The IGST members take up this purpose, in accord with QKPโs values and operating principles, in a way that:ย

- enabling young Queenslanders to say what โgoodโ systems and services look likeย

- keeping their voices, needs, and rights at the heart of all decisions and actionsย
Embodies love and care byย
- leading from a place of love for young Queenslanders and their families and communitiesย
- challenging and changing systems from a stance of care and healingย ย
Is courageous byย
- stepping into hard conversations and holding space for adaptation and growthย
