What we do

How we work and funding

Thriving Queensland Kids Partnership (TQKP) is a partnership of people and organisations working to transform systems, so all young Queenslanders can thrive.
Since late 2020, we’ve been bringing together leaders at all levels, communities, decision-makers and practitioners from across Queensland to improve connectivity, learning, and support in communities, workforces and organisations. Together, we can do things differently, so that every child and young person feels safe, supported, connected and listened to, giving them and their families the best chance to do well in life.
Key to TQKP’s approach is to enable the collaboration and leadership of practical initiatives by organisations we partner with. These can be government, non-government, community organisations, or university institutes.
This ‘distributed approach’ means sharing the resources we generate and tapping into the expertise and resources of our partners and collaborators.
This is why we describe TQKP as a broker or intermediary, and why our motto has been ‘connect, catalyse and learn’.
TQKP is not an institute, separate organisation or service provider. We’re working to ‘grow the pie’ instead of competing for funds. We are a vehicle for bringing and doing things together that are hard for organisations to do by themselves.
We also spend a good proportion of our time introducing or linking great propositions from community partners with possible collaborators and funding sources.
TQKP is privileged to be at the table as a ‘critical friend’ to the Queensland Kids Funders Alliance, and to have the Investment Dialogue for Australia’s Children (IDAC) also hosted by our auspice ARACY.
In addition, we bring our in-kind resources and relationships to the table as an ‘industry partner’ on systems-shifting research and development proposals from Queensland and other institutes applying to national and institutional research funding sources.
Significantly, during the past year (2025-26), TQKP has helped partners raise significant investments – over $5 million – directly to them, without money coming through TQKP.
When TQKP first started, a key driver for us was gaining a ‘fairer share’ of public and philanthropic funding to benefit young Queenslanders.
Despite being home to 20 per cent of Australia’s children, in 2024 it was estimated that Queensland received around:
  • 7 per cent of Australian philanthropic spending, and
  • 7 per cent of national child and adolescent health and development research and development funding.
TQKP continues to work collectively toward growing Queensland’s share, and through ARACY, for a fair share nationally.
During 2022-2025, most of the resources TQKP generated (primarily through philanthropies, with some government co-investment) were distributed to partners and collaborators.
Those partners included:
  • Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Child Protection Peak (QATSICPP) for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Strategy
  • Yiliyapinya Indigenous Corporation for the Deadly Brains Initiative
  • Queensland Brain Institute for Thriving Kids Brain Builders (TKBBI)
  • Emerging Minds (National Child and Youth Mental Health Workforce Council) for TKBBI and Enabling Workforces and Organisations (EWO)
  • Logan Together for Better Futures and Place Data Projects
  • GRT for Place Data Projects
  • West Moreton Darling Downs PHN for Thriving Lockyer Kids.
A huge thanks also to our incredible partners in the Queensland Kids Funders Alliance – Hand Heart Pocket, The Tim Fairfax Family Foundation, The John Villiers Trust and The Bryan Foundation, local collaborators such as The Shepherd Family Foundation and Helping Hands Network Foundation, and national IDAC members such as Paul Ramsay Foundation, Ian Potter Foundation, Minderoo Foundation, CAGES, Dusseldorp Foundation, Bowness Family Foundation and Equity Trustees.
Moving into Phase 3 from mid 2025, we are very grateful to have been able to attract additional investment into Queensland – both via TQKP or straight to partner and collaborator organisations, from these fantastic philanthropies.
And we are so excited by the work emerging from the Investment Dialogue for Australia’s Children.
Thank you to all our philanthropic partners for what you do individually and together to invest in many child, youth, family and community-focused organisations across Queensland, and for your support for TQKP.
By bringing people together, learning and building better support, we’re helping create a brighter future for all Queensland kids, now and into the future.
Join our growing movement of people and organisations who are working together to create a fairer, healthier Queensland for every child and young person in every community.
